The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 And when the stars fall down. 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned - 8 For what sin she was killed 9 And when the books are spread, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 The closing night, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, 20 obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 And it is not the word of an accursed Satan; 25 Where then are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
