Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions ranged 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
