The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
