(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 "And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?" 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 "You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
