a multitude of the ancients, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
