He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
