The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
