Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
