S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Sad [These letters (Sad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Quran full of reminding. 1 But the unbelievers are still full of pride and hostility. 2 How many ancient generations did We destroy? (On facing Our torment) they cried out for help, but it was too late for them to escape. 3 So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies! 4 Has he made the gods one single God? This is truly astounding.” 5 And the elders among them went forth saying: “Go ahead and be steadfast in adhering to your deities. What is being said is with a design.” 6 “We never heard of this even in Christianity, the latest religion; this is clearly a newly fabricated matter.” 7 Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?” Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. 8 Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower? 9 Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, theirs? Then let them climb up the ladders (to the heavens). 10 The army is defeated as (were) the confederates. 11 Before them the people of Noah denied the truth, as did the 'Ad and Pharaoh of the Stakes, 12 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest. 13 There was none of them but called the apostles liars, so just was My retribution. 14
