Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
