The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 chastely amorous, 37 for those on the Right, 38
