So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 he would have lingered in its belly till the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 But as for you, and that you worship, 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 They say, 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 and see them [for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
