The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and continuous shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
