The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
