Seest thou one who turns back, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his trust? -- 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 nor can man achieve anything without hard labor. 39 and that in time [the nature of] all his striving will be shown [to him in its true light,] 40 whereupon he shall be requited for it with the fullest requital; 41 To your Lord will all things eventually return. 42 It is He who causes laughter and weeping. 43 And that it is He Who gave death and gave life? 44 That He created pairs, male and female, 45 From a seed when lodged (in its place); 46 and that He will bring about the Second Creation; 47 and that it is He alone who frees from want and causes to possess; 48 That He is the Lord of Sirius; 49 And that it is He Who earlier destroyed the tribe of Aad? 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; 52 And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, 53 And covered them by that which He covered. 54 About which of the bounties of your Lord can they persistently dispute? 55 This is a (Prophet) like that of the ancient warners (Prophets). 56 There hath approached the approaching Hour. 57 No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare. 58 So are you surprised at this fact? 59 Will you laugh at it rather than weep? 60 While you are proudly sporting? 61 Prostrate yourselves before God, and worship Him alone! ۩ 62
