The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
