The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
