The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 In Allah succour. He succoureth whomsoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They know only the outward appearance of the life of the world, and they! of the Hereafter, they are neglecetful. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might, and they ploughed up the earth and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it; and their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; and God would never wrong them, but themselves they wronged. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
