Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then bring your book, if ye say sooth. 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 can lure away from God any 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 we are the rangers, 165 and we glorify God". 166 AND, INDEED, they [who deny the truth] have always been wont to say, 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Then for Our punishment are they impatient? 176 But then, once it alights upon them, hapless will be the awakening of those who were warned [to no avail]! 177 So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 So peace be on the messengers, 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
