Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
