The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
