The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
