The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
