The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
