He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you give attention. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
