The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 (It is) a marked Book. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 Further, it will be said to them: "This is the (reality) which ye rejected as false! 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 On couches face to face. 23 and in their faces you shall know the radiance of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 On high thrones, watching. 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
