The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
