The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate? (Command of Prostration # 13) ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
