Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
