The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
