He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
