Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 and arranged cushions 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
