The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
