Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 But when your Lord said to the angels: "I am verily going to create a human being from fermented clay dried tingling hard; 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 He said, “My Lord! I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I shall distract them in the earth, and I shall lead all of them astray.” 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Over My true servants you will be able to exercise no power, your power will be confined to the erring ones, those who choose to follow you. 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
