Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
