He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
