The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
