He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
