He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
