He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
