Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
