۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". 57 Then, are we not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents. 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
