The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 And the roof exalted, 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
