The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
