He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
