Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
