S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Sad. By the renowned Qur'an, 1 Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. 2 How many generations have We destroyed before them. They called: 'The time is neither of escape, nor safety' 3 So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies! 4 What, has he made the gods One God? This is indeed a wondrous thing' 5 The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed. 6 Never did we hear of [a claim like] this in any faith of latter days! It is nothing but [a mortal man's] invention! 7 What, out of all of us, has the Remembrance been sent down to him (Prophet Muhammad)' No, they are doubtful about My Remembrance, no, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or is it that they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the great Giver? 9 Or is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend through [any] ways of access. 10 (As they denied Allah's Message) they will be a defeated host like the confederates of the old times (who were defeated). 11 Before them the people of Noah denied the truth, as did the 'Ad and Pharaoh of the Stakes, 12 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest. 13 Of all these there was not one who did not deny the messengers. So My retribution was justified. 14
