Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
