The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
