The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
