Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
